Do Teslas have gears?
I’m slowly but surely learning more about cars, but electric cars like Teslas confuse me. Do they have gears?

Wow—we applaud your aim to learn more about cars! Technically, Teslas have one-speed automatic transmissions, meaning that they only have one gear. That’s because electric cars like Teslas generate all the torque that they need (the power to accelerate) at low speeds—so any more gears in a Tesla would be useless.
The AWD Teslas have dual electric motors that power each wheel individually—and that’s why they’re so darn fast (0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds!). So trust us—one gear in a Tesla is truly all you need.
