Can you travel in a car after a hip replacement?

Will I be able to travel in a car after I get my hip replaced? Driving is the main way that I get around these days and I live pretty far from town, so not being able to travel by car would be very inconvenient.

I’m sorry to hear that you have to have a hip replacement! Some surgeons say that you won’t be able to travel by car for at least three weeks after your hip replacement surgery. After that time period has passed, you’ll be able to ride in the car as a passenger for up to an hour at a time.
However, other surgeons claim that you’ll be able to drive on your own just one week after your surgery. The discrepancy is likely due to the highly individualized nature of a procedure like this. To learn more about your options,
