Can you mix transmission fluid with engine oil?

I’ve heard some people add some transmission fluid to their oil to help flush the engine. Can you mix transmission fluid with engine oil?

Good question! The short answer: transmission fluid isn’t meant to be
mixed
with engine oil. Instead, it’s better to use an engine flush or cleaning product that’s been specifically designed for that purpose.
Automatic transmission fluid also has less detergency than engine oil, which actually gives it less cleaning ability. This myth was more common practice in past decades, when
engine oil
was of lower quality and more prone to sludge buildup. These days, it’s not necessary and won’t do much.
You should be able to find a decent selection of appropriate engine flush products at an auto parts store.
