Good question—the short answer is no. You cannot get a rebate on a used Tesla or any other used eco-friendly vehicle for that matter.
You may have heard tales of the fantastic incentives
available to people shifting to an all-electric vehicle. It’s true—the American government is working with electric car manufacturers to encourage the sale of green cars. This initiative is part of a zero-emissions plan they have set to benefit the environment. Unfortunately, this doesn’t apply to every sale.
Incentives for all-electric vehicles are given only to the original buyer through the manufacturer. So if you want a rebate when buying an electric vehicle, a used Tesla doesn’t make the cut.
This also applies to those looking to lease an electric vehicle. Incentives are only available to new owners purchasing the car new. And you better act soon because *federal tax rebates are slowly on their way out due to the rise in the popularity of electric vehicles.
In fact, new EVs from Tesla and GM are no longer eligible for the federal tax credit. So if you want to take advantage of the tax credit, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
