Drivers in Texas who purchase or lease an electric vehicle are eligible for rebates up to $5,000 through the Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program.
Approximately 90% of the energy consumed from transportation in the US comes from petroleum. The transportation sector alone is responsible for 29% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, making it the leading source of emissions.
Many states offer incentives—often in the form of rebates—to drivers who choose electric vehicles. These rebates help make electric vehicles accessible to more people.
Because offers vary state by state, the car insurance comparison and broker app Jerry has compiled a guide to electric vehicle incentives in Texas.
How much can I save with the Texas electric vehicle incentive?
The Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program (LDPLIP) offers rebates of up to $,5000 to drivers who purchase or lease a vehicle powered by compressed natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, or hydrogen fuel cell or other electric drive.
Four Texas electric companies also offer the following incentives to residential customers who install qualifying Level 2 chargers:
- United Cooperative Services: 50% of purchase and installation costs up to $500
- Southwestern Electric Power Company: $250 rebate and a tax credit for 30% of installation costs
- Entergy: $250 rebate
- CPS Energy: bill credit up to $250
How to get Texas electric vehicle incentive
To apply for the Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program (LDPLIP), you’ll need to follow these steps:
