Can you flat tow an automatic Smart Car?
I’m embarking on a summer-long camping excursion and am going to be staying in an RV. I have a Smart Car and I’d like to tow it along so that I’ll have a vehicle to easily get around in. I’ve never tried to tow it before so that’s why I’d like to know, are you able to flat tow an automatic Smart Car?

RV trips are such a great time! But unfortunately, it is not recommended that you flat tow an automatic Smart Car.
Smart Car’s manufacturers do not approve of flat towing these compact, automatic vehicles. If you need to tow your Smart Car, you should use a flatbed trailer. The flatbed trailer can hitch to your RV and will keep all four wheels of your Smart Car off of the road as it’s being pulled.
Flatbed towing will help you avoid damaging your vehicle. If you flat tow an automatic vehicle—especially if the towed vehicle’s wheels are rolling down the highway at a high speed—you could end up severely damaging the transmission.
Flat towing refers to a towing method where all four wheels of the towed vehicle are touching the ground. The towed vehicle is attached to the vehicle that pulls it by a tow bar.
