Can I use my provisional driving license as ID?

I just passed my written test and got my learner’s permit. I’m eager to start using it! I’m actually setting up a bank account in the next few days. Will they accept my provisional driver’s license as a form of identification?

First, congratulations on passing the written test and getting your learner’s permit! That’s a big step toward freedom. And I’ve got good news for you—you can use your provisional driving license as ID in most states.
There are a few instances where your learner’s permit wouldn’t work, though, so it’s best to brush up on your state’s laws. In California or Florida, for example, there are some situations where your provisional license won’t be accepted for identification purposes.
On the other hand, states like New York and Colorado will let you use it as an ID no problem. So, as a rule of thumb, it’s a good idea to confirm ahead of time whether or not it will be accepted or have a backup ID on you just in case.
One last pro tip: your learner’s permit is crucial if you ever get pulled over, so be sure to store it somewhere safe. It’s probably best to have it in your wallet at all times.
As a young driver, you’re likely looking to save some money wherever you can—especially if you’re about to set up a bank account.
