Dodge Durango 3rd Row Seating Review

The Dodge Durango’s third row seating isn’t the top of its class, but its towing capacity and brawn sets it apart from the pack.

background
With its 33.5 inches of legroom for the third row, the
Dodge Durango
sits on the lower side of average compared to other three-row SUVs. What it lacks in space, however, it makes up for in strength and towing capacity.
If you regularly haul more than five people, it can be difficult to find a car large enough to fit everyone without succumbing to the minivan life. Three-row SUVs can provide the seat capacity you need, but they don’t all have the same amount of space. That’s why

If you’re curious about the third row of the Dodge Durango, you’re in the right place. We’ll take you through the precise numbers of cargo capacity and legroom, but we’ll also go over the pros and cons compared to other three-row SUVs.

What is the Dodge Durango’s 3rd row like?

Depending on which trim and configuration you go with, the Durango can hold five to seven passengers. For the 2022 Durango, the third-row is only found on the
SXT trim
—but there are more options in earlier models and trims as far back as 2011.
For a mid-size SUV, the Dodge Durango has plenty of space for your daily commute. While the third row isn’t as spacious as you’d expect, it’s perfect in a pinch or for small kids.

Space and comfort

When you’re looking for a ride with third-row seating, comfort is priority. The third row won’t matter much if it’s not comfortable for passengers to actually sit in.
Comfort can’t exactly be measured in exact terms, but legroom, headroom, and passenger volume can. Here’s how they look for the 2021 Durango:
  • Third row: 33.5 inches of legroom, 37.8 inches of headroom
  • Second row: 38.6 inches of legroom, 37.8 inches of headroom
  • Front row: 40.3 inches of legroom, 39.9 inches of headroom
  • Total passenger volume: 141 cubic feet
Judging just by the numbers, you can tell the Durango’s third row is a bit compact—but not much tighter than its second row. The lack of space may be ideal for young children, but if you’re looking to take a road trip with your closest friends, adults in the back row won’t be too happy
If third row space is a priority for you, you may want to consider the Durango’s competitors like the
Kia Telluride
or

Is the Dodge Durango good for big families and long trips?

The bottom line: the Dodge Durango’s third row is suitable for families with smaller kids, but it’ll be a tight squeeze for long trips or hauling lots of cargo.
Judging by the numbers, the Durango’s third row is on the smaller side compared to others in the midsize SUV class. Thankfully, you can get more third-row space at a cheaper price. If the Durango’s lack of space isn’t an issue for your needs, though, there are quite a few perks to driving one:
  • Top-notch standard tech features: Even the base level trims come set with high-tech infotainment features that would require expensive upgrades in other vehicles.
  • Highest towing capacity of its class: The Durango can haul anywhere from 6,200 to 8,700 lbs, higher than nearly all of its rivals.
  • Muscle car style: Unlike the sleek nature of competitors, the Durango blends the signature Dodge muscle with the versatility of a midsize SUV with a powerful V8 engine and sheer brawn.
Whether or not the Dodge Durango is a good fit for you will depend on your family’s specific needs and priorities.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
