Can I use my international driving license in the Philippines?

I’m visiting my family in the Philippines for the first time and I plan on renting a car at the airport to go see them. I already have my international driving license—can I use it in the Philippines?

Family time is so important and it’s great you’re getting to see yours! It’s also great that you already have your international driving permit (IDP). The Philippines do require a driver’s license
just like back home
you can use your international driving license in the Philippines for driving and other identification purposes.
If you don’t have your IDP, you can use your state-issued license for 90 days. It’s a better idea to get your IDP, though. Follow these steps to get your IDP:
  • Apply through a
    FIA/AIT
    compliant organization.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to hold an IDP.
  • Apply in your home country before traveling internationally.
  • You must hold a standard, not temporary, license.
  • The permit fee in the US is $20.
  • You must provide two photographs that follow the
same standards as a US passport
