How do I open the hood of a Lincoln MKZ?

The check engine light recently came on in my new Lincoln MKZ. How do I open the hood to get a look?

To open a
Lincoln MKZ
hood you’ll need to first pull the hood release lever and then release the safety latch under the hood. To do so, follow these simple steps:
  • Locate the hood release lever on the driver’s side of your car—it will be under your dashboard near the steering column of your vehicle.
  • Pull the hood release lever until you hear the hood pop to raise it open a couple of inches.
  • Exit your vehicle and circle to the front of your car.
  • Locate the safety latch just under the hood, and push it to the left.
From there, you should only have to lift the hood (and maybe prop it open) and ta-da! You’re ready to get to work under the hood. No matter the maintenance, keep your car rolling with coverage from
