Can I use my international driving license in California?

I live in France. I’m leaving for California in four days and planning to rent a car, but I don’t have a valid U.S. license. Is my international driver’s license acceptable to drive in California?

Yes, you can use an international driving license to drive in
California
.
California does not recognize an international driving permit (IDP) as a driver’s license, but a valid driver’s license issued in another country is perfectly acceptable.
Keep in mind: Not only do you need a valid license to legally drive in California, but you also need
car insurance
. To keep you safe from fines, make sure you have the
necessary coverage
before you get behind the wheel in the Golden State.
