Can a child travel in a two seater car?
I’m going on vacation with my five year old daughter. Since we’re going to Florida, I thought it’d be a ton of fun to rent a convertible. The rental car company only offers convertibles with two seats. Is it safe for a child to travel in a two seater car?

Renting a convertible in a warm place sounds amazing! In Florida, a child can travel in a two seater car.
Florida’s car seat law
states a child five and under must be restrained by a safety device. However, this can be a seat belt, booster seat, or car seat. Since your daughter is five, she can travel in a two seater car, as long as she wears her seat belt or you put her in a booster seat. That said, having a child ride in the front seat can be dangerous due to the force of the passenger’s airbag. Ideally, your child should ride in the backseat of a vehicle until they are 13 years old. However, it’s completely up to you! You wouldn’t be doing anything illegal by allowing your child to ride in a two seater car.
If you’re concerned, consider renting a car with a sunroof instead. Typically, these vehicles will have a backseat where your daughter can ride, but you’ll still get the warm Florida breeze while you cruise around.
