At what age can you get a driving licence in the U.K.?

I’m planning on taking my kids to London for an extended vacation. My sons are huge fans of Top Gear and can’t wait to have their first British driving experience. What age do my teenage boys have to be to get a licence in the United Kingdom?

How exciting! You can get a provisional driving licence in the U.K. when you’re 15 years and 9 months of age, and you can start driving any car by the age of 17, with some exceptions for 16-year-olds.
Even with a provisional driving licence, you can’t drive on a public road in the U.K. until you’re 17 years old. However, 16-year-olds can drive:
  • Mopeds
  • Tractors
  • Quad bikes
Car insurance in England is going to be extremely expensive, especially in London, so maybe you can try to save as much as possible on your car insurance while you’re still in the U.S. with
