Are U-turns legal in Montana?

One of my friends told me that the least-traveled but most beautiful way into Yellowstone is through Montana. This summer, that’s my plan of attack. But before I get to Montana, I want to make sure I’m familiar with state driving laws. Can I legally make a U-turn there?

Your friend is right! The journey into Yellowstone National Park from the north is far less traveled, but definitely a spectacle to behold. However, you have to drive through a substantial portion of
Montana
to get there. Fortunately, U-turns are legal in Montana if you miss your street.
Before you make a U-turn, just make sure to follow these simple safety tips:
  • Always yield to oncoming traffic before you make a U-turn
  • Only make a U-turn in the left-most lane
  • Don’t make a U-turn if a street sign specifically prohibits it
If you’re going on a road trip to Yellowstone, you’re going to travel some remote areas. So get some peace of mind by adding
towing and labor coverage
to your car insurance policy. Research which companies offer this coverage and then use the
