Are Jeeps the best off road vehicles?
I’m looking to buy a vehicle specifically for off-roading. I know SUVs are the most suited for this job, but I want to know which brand has the best lineup. Do Jeeps have the best off-roading vehicles?

Jeep—more specifically, the
Jeep Wrangler
—is the first 4x4 many people imagine when they think of the best off-roading vehicle, but just because the Wrangler is iconic, doesn’t mean it’s the best of its kind.For example, Wrangler owners often complain about the vehicle’s “death wobble,” a mechanical defect caused by loose or misaligned parts in the Jeep’s suspension or steering system. Additionally, newer Jeep Wrangler models—including the ones produced in 2020 and 2021—received pretty dismal ratings from Consumer Reports and U.S. News alike.
In fact, recent model years of the
Toyota 4Runner
have been ranking higher than the Jeep Wrangler on trusted vehicle reviewers’ lists. Even the brand-new Land Rover
Defender has also been receiving lots of awards and accolades.In the end, the best off-road vehicle for you will depend on a variety of factors. Of course, the model year and trim you choose will have a major effect on each SUV’s on- and off-road performance. However, price point and additional features—such as interior style and infotainment technology—will also vary widely.
