Are electric cars for $10k good?

It’s time for me to get a new car, and I really want to get an electric vehicle. However, I can’t really afford to spend more than $10k with all fees included. Are there any electric vehicles out there for less than $10k? Are electric cars for $10k good?

I hear you! While it’s awesome to own an EV, it’s not cheap. Going the _previously owned vehicle _route is going to be your best bet.
While you may not be able to find the best _electric car out there, you can _still find a used one for $10,000 or less. Not only will a used EV help you save money on gas, but you should be able to still get at least 100 miles of range. But be prepared to spend some time hunting for your used EV, as there may be fewer options than you’d expect.
Used electric cars will most likely have 50,000 or more miles on the odometer. However, many don’t disclose the battery degradation. If it’s not on the listing, be sure to ask the seller.
Here’s what we know about electric cars for $10k or less:
  • For less than $10,000, you should be able to find a used Chevy Spark, Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus EV, or a Fiat 500e.
  • The Nissan Leaf is one of the highest-volume electric cars in history, not to mention one of the oldest. 2011, 2012, and 2013 models have been spotted for sale between $5,000 to $6,000.
  • The Chevy Spark is discontinued, but you may be able to find it in your local market for anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000. Same with the Fiat 500e.
  • If you find a Ford Focus Electric from 2014-2015 with about 50,000 miles, expect it to cost about $9,000.
Now that you know the best options for an EV under the $10k range, make sure you’re also in the know about the best car insurance options for your next vehicle.
