Are boat docks covered under home insurance?
I live on the water and have a boat dock. Recently there was a big storm, which caused significant damage. I think it’s going to be pretty expensive to repair, so I’m considering submitting a claim. Is my boat dock covered under my home insurance?

I’m sorry to hear about the damage! Boat docks are covered under home insurance policies, but how they are covered depends on the type of dock you have.
If you have a permanent dock that isn’t removable, it’d be covered under your Coverage B or other structures coverage since it’s on your property but not attached to your home.
If you have a removable dock, meaning it isn’t permanently attached to your property, most insurers would cover it under your Coverage C or personal property coverage.
In most instances, your dock will have coverage from the
16 covered perils
in standard home insurance policies. Since a storm caused the damage, you shouldn’t have any issues submitting a claim. To confirm your coverage, you’ll want to review your policy’s terms and conditions or speak with a representative. As long as the damage exceeds your deductible and isn’t excluded, you should be able to submit a claim.
