Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in NC?

I was recently caught driving without a seatbelt in North Carolina (I know!) and I’m worried it will affect my driving record. Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in North Carolina?

No—a seatbelt ticket is not considered a moving violation in NC, but it still has consequences.
If you have a passenger under 16 years old who’s not wearing a seat belt, then you will get two demerit points added to your
North Carolina driving record
. Otherwise, a seatbelt ticket will not add points to your driver’s license or increase your insurance rates.
If a moving violation has increased your insurance rates, you can still lower your
North Carolina insurance costs
