background
From
Porsche
models to Bugatti supercars, there are many cars out there that can easily go over 200 mph right of the dealership lot.
Some vehicles are made specifically to break world records, others are production cars, which are mass-produced and offered for sale to the public.
Of course, these cars are all very pricy
luxury vehicles
, going on sale for millions of dollars each. Here are some of the fastest production cars in the world.
You can buy cars that are incredibly fast straight off the dealership lot.

From Ferrari to Bugatti Supercars

According to the
Robb Report
, the world’s first car to crack the 200 mph barrier was the Ferrari F40, back in 1987. Since then, car brands have competed to earn the 300+ mph title.
Motor Authority
reported that the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ was the first to break that impressive threshold.
Here is Robb Report’s list of fastest production cars as of 2021, excluding the claims that are unproven.
For a production car to create a world-record-holding run, it has to be able to make a speed in both directions, in addition to having a production volume of 30+ cars of that model.

Fastest production cars as of 2021

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport—267.8 mph
This was built in 2010 for the sole purpose of getting the fastest production car built title (and received it!). These days, there are faster cars though.
Hennessey Venom GT—270.4 mph
Although the Venom GT is faster than others on this list, it doesn’t qualify for official record books because it sold 13 models and didn’t reach this speed in both directions.
Koenigsegg Agera RS—277.8 mph
This fast Agera RS that runs on E85 fuel was getting a whopping 1,360 horsepower.
SSC Tuatara—282.9 mph
Jerod Shelby, SSC North America’s founder, claimed in 2020 that the Tuatara could make 316.11 mph. The internet was skeptical. Upon performing a retrial, the Tuatara was confirmed to reach a speed of 282.9 mph.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+—304.7 mph
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is currently the fastest production car out there, as of this year. It is the first car to officially break the 300 mph threshold. Other cars that may have done so have done it unofficially.
