The Ultimate Classic Race Cars: Utah Edition

Some people are into the latest and greatest when it comes to buying cars. They don't keep cars for a long time and frequently upgrade to a new vehicle to get the latest technology. For some consumers, modern technology and amenities are the best part of owning a vehicle.
Not everyone agrees with that, though.
Classic car
enthusiasts would rather drive cars from decades earlier, without all the bells and whistles that modern cars offer. Part of the fun for classic car collectors is to be able to race them and prove their vintage wheels are better than others.
There are a lot of great options for classic car enthusiasts.

OPTIMA's Ultimate Street Car series

Since 2008, OPTIMA has been running the Ultimate Street Car competition, a series of automotive events for street-legal performance vehicles. The owners enter their cars in the competition to try to prove that their vehicles are the most powerful. According to
Motor Sports Park
, the events include design and engineering, a road rally, speed-stop, autocross, and a road course.
Motor Trend
reported that a contestant can get 100 points from each segment of the event, for a potential "perfect" score of 500 points—which has yet to be achieved. There are seven events during the season, but only a driver's top three scores count toward their total. Whoever wins the finale, an invitational at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, claims the "Ultimate Street Car" title.

The tour made a stop in Utah in July, and some of the best competition was in the Classic Car Liquidators GTV Class division. To qualify in this class, a car must have been made before 1990 and weigh at least 3,200 pounds. There was a single model that dominated the competitions in that area of the series.
Californian Brian Hobaugh traveled more than 700 miles from home to get to Utah to show his fellow competitors what his car can do—and it paid off. Hobaugh took first place in the division in his 1973 Chevrolet Camaro. Camaros rounded out the top three as well. Ryan Breezee took second place in his 1969 Camaro and Nick Relampagos placed third in his 1970 Camaro.
