Toyota
offers many reliable vehicles, and it's one of the few automakers that sell a modern minivan. The Toyota Sienna can shuttle the whole family in comfort, plus it's equipped with plenty of cargo space. Drivers in harsher climates may also especially appreciate the Sienna for its AWD capabilities.
According to
Autotrader
, there's a new Sienna variant that packs a little extra adventure and the right balance of high-tech and practicality. The 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition doesn’t have the off-roading capabilities of a Jeep, but a lift kit makes this minivan a unique enhancement to outdoor lifestyles.
What other features does the Toyota Sienna Woodland include that set it apart from the standard Sienna?
The Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition is a minivan for adventurers.

What's included with the Toyota Sienna Woodland?

The Sienna Woodland is based on the XLE trim, which has some more plush interior details compared to the base model. Cloth seats are swapped out for a leather sport-trimmed option with tasteful earth-toned stitching and standard heating for the front seats. Spend a little more cash and you can also get an upgraded JBL sound system and navigation.
Toyota
notes that this model also comes with a 120-volt power adapter to keep all your devices charged for an overnight camping trip, and you can even get AT&T Wi-Fi on-board for on-the-go entertainment and connectivity.
You can haul ATVs or boats with the Sienna Woodland's standard tow hitch, capable of pulling up to 3,500 pounds. You can also store longer equipment like kayaks on top of the van with its standard roof racks.
The Woodland is the first modern factory-produced minivan of its kind to have a lift kit, which gives it heightened ground clearance for better performance on trails.
To complement its rugged nature, The Woodland Special Edition is available in two sleek colors, Midnight Black Metallic or Cement, which is exclusive to this edition. The minivan’s dark chrome interior accents complement the shades beautifully for an impressive look.

How does it compare to a regular Toyota Sienna?

Since the Woodland Edition is based on the XLE, many of the core features are the same, with a few key differences.
According to
Car and Driver
, all 2022 Toyota Siennas have the same hybrid powertrain, which promises 245 hp. FWD is standard on the Sienna and AWD is available, but the Woodland Edition comes standard with AWD.
While there are seven- or eight-seater Sienna trims available, the Woodland seats seven. Passengers can experience the luxury of extra legroom in seven-seaters with Super-Long-Slide chairs for the second row, giving it a spacious limo-like quality. Pop-up ottomans for the Limited and Platinum trims add to the luxury.
Toyota states that the Sienna offers "ultra-smooth acceleration" with minimal noise. This may be the case, but Car and Driver testers were underwhelmed by the length of time it took for the minivan to reach 60 mph–7.7 seconds.
It is outperformed in this area by the gas-powered
Chrysler
Pacifica and Honda Odyssey, but the Sienna redeems itself with outstanding fuel economy.
Best-in-show for its class, the Sienna is rated for 36 mpg for city and highway with FWD and a projected 35 mpg for city/highway combined for AWD models, including the Woodland Edition. These are incredible numbers for minivans.
Each Sienna comes with a multitude of standard convenience technology like an infotainment screen and media connectivity, as well as essential safety features like a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, and cyclist detection, among other additions.
However, according to Autotrader, the Woodland’s JBL speakers, rear entertainment system and power outlet, navigation system, and spare tire are the main features that set it apart from the other Sienna trims.
With nods to the environmental awareness encouraged by alternatively powered vehicles like hybrids and the outdoorsy mission of the Woodland Edition, Toyota will donate $250 to the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), to a minimum total donation of $250,000. The money will help to foster the foundation’s mission of closer engagement between the public and the environment.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland better than an SUV?

With its combination of durable and practical yet luxurious and spacious features and unique styling, the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland is perfect for a family of adventurers. It's also slightly cheaper than some large SUVs, starting at $46,565.
As a hybrid, it has a range exceeding 600 miles, meaning you’ll probably spend less on fuel than with a traditional gas-powered SUV.
While it may not offer all the features and towing capacity of a large SUV or truck, the Sienna Woodland Edition certainly proves itself to be a competitor in the large outdoor-oriented vehicle market.
We expect the 2022 Toyota Sienna to appear in dealerships within the next few months, chip shortages permitting.
