background
The Detroit Auto Show is back with a bang after being canceled twice due to COVID-19. The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has rebranded itself to Motor Bella and moved the car event from downtown Detroit to M1 Concourse in Pontiac for 2021.
If you live in Southeast Michigan and are interested in trying or buying from new
car brands
, then Motor Bella is a great option. Here is a look into the 2021 Motor Bella auto show, based on reports from the
Detroit News
.
The outdoor setup of the Motor Bella auto show was a hit with attendees.

Why was the Motor Bella auto show started?

The Motor Bella is a newly reimagined auto show led by the visionary team behind the NAIAS and made its debut in September. The Motor Bella follows the Detroit show’s old car marketing strategy, with cars lined up in showrooms. However, this year, the event was largely outside, which appealed to many of the attendees.
In 2020, the NAIAS had planned significant changes to try to regain its former glory including outside events, food
trucks
, and test drive opportunities. Through the Motor Bella, these plans were revived. Automakers and suppliers set up static displays of vehicles around the area and inside tents.
Initially, the Motor Bella was meant to be an exhibit of British and Italian performance and luxury vehicles to boost NAIAS. However, it has since been expanded to a full auto show with complete product reveals.
The auto show was not meant to replace the NAIAS but to serve as an experiment for what Detroit's new show needs to stay relevant. This new event brings exciting vehicles and next-generation mobility to the media, show-goers, and automotive lovers while addressing COVID-19 concerns about indoor events.

2021 Motor Bella

The 2021 Motor Bella auto show moved from being indoor in January to outdoor in September. This year's event was spattered with light rain as vehicles were lined up across the M1 Concourse.
Motor Bella isn't just any ordinary auto show but provides a tangible tour through the automotive world. It features over 350 cars, utility vehicles, and trucks, and you can cruise in a sports car on a mile-long track.
The ride-along events happened daily from Thursday through Saturday starting at 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ford, Audi, and Stellantis—which owns Dodge, Ram, and Jeep—offered free ride-alongs.
Motor Bella featured newer car models like the 2022 Ford Expedition, a dazzling 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 3LT Coupe, and a classic 1997 Ferrari F355 Spider. The 2022 Toyota Tundra also made its public debut.

What will the show look like next year?

The success of the 2021 Motor Bella could prompt a shift to outdoor shows during the summer. Whatever the future of the show, attendees certainly seemed to enjoy being back at the car event this year.
