Since its debut, the Ford Bronco Sport has had various issues that caused it to be recalled a whopping five times in the same year. While many leading brands have also had similar
recalls, none had as many as the Bronco Sport. Recalls are something most buyers check when
buying a car, however, the latest Ford Bronco Sport recall has buyers questioning their purchase.
The first recall was due to inadequate lube on its rear unit, while the second was due to an issue with suspension bolts. Other recalls were due to issues such as incorrect lower control arms and a leaky fuel delivery module. The latest Ford Bronco Sport recall
had to do with the moonroof.
What is the problem with the moonroof?
According to the papers filed by Ford with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the carmaker plans to recall about 1,000 2021 Bronco SUVs that it suspects to have problems with the moonroof.
The primer used on a few Bronco Sport vehicles that were assembled between April 27 and May 25, 2021, was not cured properly before engineers installed the moonroof. The weak bond could lead to an inadequate attachment between the body and the moonroof frame, which, in turn, could cause the roof to detach.
Auto Evolutionstates that out of 1,036 cars targeted for the recall, the company believes that only 233 vehicles could have the problem. However, it wants to inspect all of the vehicles assembled around that time just to be sure. Ford has received four warranty claims from the issue, but no injuries have been reported so far.
Here's how the Ford Bronco Sport recall will be conducted
Ford will start the Ford Bronco Sport recall on November 29. The car owners will be asked to take their SUVs to the nearest Lincoln or Ford dealer for inspection. If the dealer finds that the roof needs repair, they will apply the appropriate bond and install a new moonroof.
Before the recall date, car owners should feel free to contact Ford customer service via 866-436-7332. During the call, they should cite the internal reference number 21S46.
Car owners can also get assistance from the NHTSA by calling 1-888-327-4236 and citing the campaign number 21V809000. The details of the recall are available on the NHTSA website.
Since the issue is not a major one, any affected car owner should have their vehicle back within a few days. The current warranty covers the inspection and repair of all the affected Ford Bronco Sport vehicles.
Autoblog, this is not the first time Ford is dealing with falling roofs. Earlier this year, it was forced to issue a recall for the Mustang Mach-E for a glass roof that was at risk of falling out. This was a blow to the company as it had called out Tesla for the same issue.
