The goal of the tests is to determine if the Mustang Mach-E could be suitably used by the Michigan State Police as a cruiser. All vehicles that are in consideration must undergo this test, but almost every other vehicle the Michigan State Police are testing is gas-powered.
Testing for Michigan State Police vehicles measures the capabilities of cars in categories that are important to police work. These include speed tests, braking capabilities, and overall handling. As the Mach-E is an EV, the testers will also likely consider the vehicle range.
Before submitting the Mustang Mach-E to the Michigan State Police, Ford already demonstrated intentions to produce electric police vehicles. They previously showed off a variant of the EV designed for police use in the United Kingdom.
