How to remote start your Buick Encore

There are a couple of different ways to start your Encore remotely, but the easiest option is to use your
key fob
.

Starting your Encore with the key fob

Using your key fob to start your Buick Encore remotely won’t require any extra setup, so it’s a great way to learn more about your car’s remote start feature.
  • Press the Lock button on your key fob.
  • Press and hold the Remote Start button for at least 4 seconds.
  • Wait for the lights on your Encore to flash.
After a remote start, your Encore will run for 15 minutes before the engine shuts off automatically. You can extend the time by an additional 15 minutes by repeating the remote start sequence on your key fob, but you can only do this once.

Stopping your engine

Sometimes, you start your car too early. Other times, you start your car and then change your mind about leaving home. Regardless, you can turn off your engine remotely, too!
Simply press the Remote Start button on your key fob for at least 3 seconds to shut off your car remotely. The parking lights should turn off to indicate that your engine has turned off.

Starting your Encore with the mobile app

Some Buicks allow you to use the myBuick app to start your car remotely. This option will require a bit more setup, but it can be handy in a pinch!
Here’s how to do it:
  • Download the myBuick app to your phone.
  • Follow the prompts on your screen to set up your account.
  • Accept the User Terms and Privacy Statement prompts.
  • Use
    your car's VIN
to add your Encore to the app.
  • Press and hold the Power button on the app’s home screen to start your car.

Buick Encore remote start tips and tricks

If you’re having trouble getting your remote start feature to work, it’s possible that some of the safety features are working against you. If any of the following problems occur, your Buick either won’t start or will turn off the engine:
  • The coolant temperature gets too high
  • The oil pressure gets too low
  • The security alarm is triggered
  • The vehicle has been running for 30 minutes or more
Other problems that might cause a failed remote start include things like:
  • An open door
  • A popped hood
  • A drained battery
  • A remote key inside your car
  • Flashing hazard lights
Before heading to the mechanic to get your remote start feature checked out, make sure that none of these things are obstructing your ability to start your car from afar!
