How to start your Chevy remotely through the myChevrolet app

The Chevrolet remote connect app, known as the myChevrolet mobile app, can be used to send a variety of different commands to your Chevy. To start your Chevy remotely, first download the myChevrolet app from the App Store. Then, create an account using your GM account email, which is the one you gave when you bought the vehicle, and password.
Once you’re in, you will see the commands available for your particular vehicle and plan displayed on the home screen—though you may be able to find more in the “View More” screen. Hold down the “start” button until your app prompts you to let go. The car will start and continue running for fifteen minutes before it turns off again

How to turn your Chevy off remotely

If you want to turn off your car once you’ve started it remotely, good news! You can do that from your phone too.
All you have to do is press “Stop” on the home screen, and hold it down until the app alerts you to let go.

Other myChevrolet features

The myChevrolet app also comes with a ton of features beyond just start and stop. Other remote controls include:
  • Lock and unlock doors: Use the app to lock or unlock your doors from any distance.
  • Honk horn or flash lights: There are also controls for the horn and lights on your remote app, making your Chevy easier to find in the grocery store parking lot.
  • Vehicle status: Check your fuel range and efficiency, tire pressure, oil life, odometer, and more.
  • Navigation: Find your car's location on a map, or send turn-by-turn directions to your vehicle.
  • Vehicle service: View your car's maintenance schedule; make, view, and edit appointments; and receive updates when you should take in your Chevy to be serviced.
  • Roadside assistance: Call for roadside assistance straight from the app and keep an eye on their progress.
You can use the myChevrolet app from both your smartphone and your smartwatch. Plus, if you have more than one Chevy, you can track them all in the “Garage” feature of the app, where you can switch between cars you want to communicate with.

Is Chevy’s remote start app free?

While the app itself is free to download, the service is a paid one that operates on a subscription model. In other words, in order to actually use the app to start your car remotely, you’ll have to pay a monthly or annual rate.
While drivers who purchase a car with the capability will automatically receive a basic plan that includes some of the features the myChevrolet app is capable of, those who want to use the remote start feature will have to pay for the Access plan
The basic plan that comes at no extra charge will be valid for ten years and includes:
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi® Hotspot Compatibility
  • Chevrolet Smart Driver insights and analytics
  • Preferred Dealer settings
  • Trailering features and checklist
  • Vehicle service schedule and checklist
  • Searchable Chevy owner’s manual
  • OnStar and Chevrolet support
The Access plan, on the other hand, is what allows you to use features like:
  • Remote engine start/stop and remote lock/unlock
  • Check vehicle status
  • Vehicle location
  • Navigation integration
This plan costs $14.99 per month.

separately.
Key Takeaway While remote start doesn’t come standard on all recent Chevy models, it does on many. For many other models, remote start is an optional add-on.
