How to tow a Jeep Cherokee

Following Jeep’s

owner’s manual

instructions to a T is extremely important when towing your Cherokee. Failing to do so could result in severely damaging your Jeep.

To tow your 4x4 Jeep Cherokee:

Bring the vehicle to a complete stop and shift the transmission to PARK.

Turn the ignition off.

Turn the ignition ON but do not fully start the engine.

Press and hold the brake pedal and shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.

Press the N (NEUTRAL) button located by the selector switch for four seconds. Lights will blink and then turn off when the shift to NEUTRAL is complete. At this point, release the N button.

Start the engine.

Release the parking brake and shift the transmission to REVERSE.

Release the brake pedal to test that the vehicle does not move.

Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL, engage the parking brake, then shift the transmission to PARK.

Turn the engine off.

Attach the vehicle to the tow vehicle.

Turn the ignition ON but do not fully start the engine.

Press and hold the brake.

Release the parking brake, turn the ignition OFF, and release the brake.

And voila! Your vehicle is ready to be towed.
