How to check your Q5’s gas tank size

Still confused as to which size gas tank your Q5 has? Here are a few ways that you can figure out your Audi Q5 fuel capacity.

Measure the gas tank

You can figure out your vehicle’s fuel capacity by simply measuring it yourself. Just grab your favorite measuring tape and your most trusted calculator and follow these easy steps.
  1. Measure your Q5 gas tank’s length, width, and depth in inches.
  2. Multiply the above measurements together to find your fuel tank’s holding capacity in square inches.
  3. Divide that number by 231—the cubic volume of a gallon—to determine how many gallons fit into your fuel tank.
So, for example, if you measure your gas tank out to 14 inches long, 17 inches wide, and 13 inches deep, you get a total volume of 3,094 cubic inches. Divide that by 231, and you’ll see that your gas tank holds 13.39 gallons of gas.

Check your owner’s manual

If you’d rather avoid doing math, you can find all the most important specs for your Audi Q5—including fuel tank capacity—in your owner’s manual. Gas tank specs can be found under “Capacities” heading in the “TechnicalData” section.

Drive till empty, then fill it up

If books aren’t your thing, either, there is one more way to figure out your gas tank holding capacity—drive your Q5 until the low fuel indicator comes on, then head to your local gas station and fill up your tank. Before you drive away be sure to note how many gallons the gas pump says you put in your tank. That will give you a rough estimate of how much fuel your Audi Q5 can hold.

How to save on fuel costs in a TKModel

The Audi Q5 comes in three available powertrains—a gas-only variation, a mild-hybrid variation, and a plug-in hybrid variation. The former two both have a combined city-highway fuel economy rating of 25 miles per gallon, while the latter has a combined 61 miles per gallon rating.
How efficient your Q5 is on gas has a lot to do with how you drive and care for your vehicle. Here are some ways that you can help yourself save on gas:
  • Stick to your maintenance schedule. Make sure you are taking your car in for regular tune-ups and oil changes. Regular maintenance helps eliminate inefficiencies and keeps your vehicle’s fuel economy in top form.
  • Ease up on the gas. Heavy acceleration burns gas inefficiently. Try accelerating more gradually, keeping your RPMs between 1,300 and 1,500—the most fuel-efficient speed.
  • Avoid idling. Allowing your vehicle’s engine to run without moving is a waste of gas. Let your cold vehicle warm up as you drive in the winter. It may be a little uncomfortable to sit in a cold seat, but you’ll be singing a different tune when you’re sitting on a pile of cash.

How to optimize your TKModel’s insurance coverage

While the Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid certainly seems like the way to go if you want to save money on gas, be aware that hybrid vehicles often cost more to insure because of all the extra machinery and materials. One trick you can use to keep your Audi Q5 insurance cost down is to use the
