How to replace a lost driver’s license in Alaska

The first step to replacing a driver’s license is realizing it’s lost, so you’re already doing great! The next step is to file for a replacement as soon as possible and report the missing license to local authorities if you suspect it’s been stolen. Replacing a lost Alaska license online

If you’re nervous about driving to the DMV without a license, or if you simply enjoy convenience, you can request a replacement card

through the AK DMV driver’s license request portal.

To be eligible for an online replacement, you must meet the following requirements:

You’re at least 18 years of age or older

The last driver’s license you carried was obtained in person at a DMV office

You haven’t had a name change

In addition to your full name as it appears on your license, you will need to provide your driver’s license number, your Social Security number, and your date of birth.

You must also certify that your vision is 20/40 or better, you haven’t changed your name, and your address is correct. If you’ve moved,

update your address online

before proceeding with the replacement process.

Your request should be processed within three to five business days, and you will receive an emailed receipt and a copy of your temporary license then. Print out this temporary license and carry it with you until you receive your duplicate license arrives, which should take between two to four weeks by mail.

Replacing a lost Alaska license in person

If you can’t apply for a replacement license online, you will need to go to your local DMV office.

Before you head to the DMV, fill out the

(form D1) and gather two forms of identification. Use the driver’s license information page for a list of
