background
The 2011
Dodge Charger
has a ground clearance between 4.9 and 5.1 inches. The Mopar 11 and Road/Track trims offer the highest clearance, at 5.1 inches.
Sedans usually aren’t the first pick when it comes to selecting a vehicle for outdoor adventures and off-roading. Most of the time, drivers consider the tire quality, engine type, torque, horsepower, and of course, ground clearance. Because they’re intended for a smooth ride on paved surfaces, sedans don’t generally go above 6.5 inches.

2011 Dodge Charger ground clearance

The ground clearance for the Dodge Charger changes slightly depending on the trim level. Take a look at the ride height for each one:
  • Mopar 11: 5.1 inches
  • RT: 4.9 inches
  • RT Max: 4.9 inches
  • RT Plus: 4.9 inches
  • Rallye
    : 5.0 inches
  • Rallye Plus: 5.0 inches
  • Road/Track
    : 5.1 inches
  • SE
    : 5.0 inches
Higher trim levels tend to have higher ground clearance, but not by much! Because this vehicle is a sedan, it probably wasn’t built with ride height at top of mind—it hovers at around 5 inches of ground clearance.

Toyota RAV4 ground clearance over the years

The Dodge Charger has been around since the 1960s, but you probably wouldn’t even recognize the first model as a Charger unless you are a true fan! Inevitably, many changes have been made over the years—including the ground clearance, body shape, engine type, and more.
Through the generations, here is how ground clearance has changed:
  • 1st generation B-Body (1966-1967): 3.8 inches
  • 2nd generation B-Body (1968-1970): 3.8 inches
  • 3rd generation B-Body (1971-1974): 5.1 inches
  • 4th generation B-Body (1975-1982): 5.1 inches
  • 5th generation L-Body (1982-1987): N/A
  • 6th generation LX (2006-2010): 5.-5.2 inches
  • 7th generation LD (2011-2022): 4.6-5.4 inches
Keep in mind that the ground clearance will also change between trim levels for each model year. For example, the 2015 Dodge Charger has a couple of trims with 4.6-inch ground clearance and then a few that sit at 5.4 inches.

What is ground clearance—and why does it matter?

So why does ground clearance matter and what is it in the first place? Simply put, ground clearance, or ride height, is the amount of space between the ground and the frame of the vehicle, or the chassis. It is a measurement of how high the vehicle sits off the ground and is important for drivers to know if they plan to take their vehicle off-roading.
The higher the ground clearance, the more easily your vehicle can drive over terrain without being damaged. Experts generally recommend that your vehicle has at least 8.5 inches of ground clearance for safe off-roading. That being said, the Dodge Charger should stick to paved, smooth roads.

Is the Dodge Charger a good off-road vehicle?

With a maximum of 5.4 inches of ground clearance, the Dodge Charger is not meant to handle any serious terrain!
While it’s not the best choice for off-roading, this sedan does have some power to it. It has a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine which gives it 293 horsepower and it’s available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. There is also the option for a V8 engine with higher trims.
If you’re looking for a sedan with a higher ground clearance, consider the
Nissan Versa
, with a ride height of 6.8 inches. Another good option is the
Mazda 6
, which sits at 6.5 inches
