The best windshield wipers for a Tesla Model Y

It’s best to try to identify the need for replacement wipers before you really need them, so be on the lookout for streaky watermarks or unpleasant sounds when you flip your wipers on.

How to replace Tesla Model Y windshield wipers

Most windshield wiper manufacturers recommend replacing your blades every twelve months, but if you live in an area with a lot of rain or snow, you may notice your wipers wear more quickly.
When your wipers have been pushed to their limit and are no longer wiping your windshield clean, it’s time to change them. Thankfully, replacing wiper blades is one of the simplest maintenance tasks you can do, with no real experience necessary! Follow along with the directions below to replace your Tesla Model Y’s windshield wipers.

How to put Tesla Model Y windshield wipers in service position

Before we discuss how to put your wipers into service position, let’s go over exactly what this position is. Service position is where your wipers stop at the top of their motion so they can be easily accessed for a replacement.
To go to the service position, turn off your wipers and put your Tesla into Park. Next, use your touchscreen and navigate to Touch Controls, Settings, Service & Reset, Service Mode, and finally On. The blades will stop at the top of their stroke and will return to the normal starting position when you take your car out of Park.

How to replace Tesla Model Y wiper blades

Once your wipers are in an accessible position, you can begin to switch in your fresh blades. To do this, simply:
  • Remove the old blade from the wiper arm by pressing the release button
  • Pull out the blade
  • Insert the new blade by pushing it into the chamber the old blade was released from
  • Gently place the blade on the windshield
  • Test the blades by taking the car out of Park, selecting MIST, and making them wipe
That’s all there is to it—fast, easy, and one less trip to the repair shop! If you notice a problem with the wiper arm, however, you will need to take your Tesla in for professional help.
