2022 Honda Pilot engine oil capacity
The 2022 Honda Pilot is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an engine oil capacity of 5.7 quarts or 5.4 liters. Now, your Honda Pilot’s engine oil capacity should not be confused with its engine’s displacement–or the 3.5 liters of volume its cylinders take up. In contrast, the oil capacity is how much oil your Pilot requires for each oil change.
What kind of oil does a 2022 Honda Pilot need?
To keep your Honda Pilot running smoothly, you’ll want to make sure you're using the right type of oil for your vehicle. For the best engine oil for the 2022 Honda Pilot, it’s best to follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Honda recommends using premium-grade 0W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification seal on the container.
So, what exactly does all of that mean? The 0 in OW-20 represents the oil’s viscosity when the engine’s temperature is cold, while the W stands for “winter.” The 20 represents the oil’s viscosity and higher temperatures.
The API Seal indicates that the oil is energy-conserving and meets the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute.
All in all, this means the 0W-20 oil will perform well in various temperatures and allow for less wear and tear on your Pilot’s engine. If you’re sticking to your Pilot owner’s manual recommendation, use Honda Pilot Engine Oil Genuine 0W-20.

How often to change the oil on a 2022 Honda Pilot
Honda suggests changing your Pilot’s engine oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you aren’t taking your Pilot out much, you may be able to get by changing your oil every six months.
Things change a bit if you’re using synthetic oil. Synthetic oil doesn’t need to be changed as frequently, so you can wait to change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
The best way to make sure you’re changing the oil at the right time is by regularly checking your oil level. Honda suggests checking every time you refuel. If you see any of the following signs, it’s time to check your oil:
Your oil is dark brown or black in color(clean oil is light brown or amber, like a cup of tea. Dirty oil is the color of soda.)
Your oil feels coarse or gritty
Unfamiliar noises are coming from the engine
Any new smells, particularly oil, smoke, or burning
Changes in your Pilot’s performance
How to change your oil and oil filter
When the time comes to change your oil and oil filter, the first step is to gather your materials:
A filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter
Six quarts of OW-20 engine oil
Run your engine until it reaches normal operating temperature—it should take no more than five minutes. Then you can go ahead and shut the engine off, pop the hood, and follow these steps:
Get under the engine and take off the oil drain bolt and washer
Drain the old oil into the drain pan
Remove your Pilot’s old oil filter while the oil continues to drain
Replace your oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
Refill the engine with the new oil and replace your fill cap
To make sure you’ve added enough oil, use your dipstick and run the engine for a few minutes. After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Then, reset your oil change reminder light. There are two ways to do this:
From the homepage of the car's touchscreen, tap Settings, then Vehicle, then scroll down to Maintenance Information. Your oil life percentage will display. Tap Reset All in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap Reset again to bring your oil life percentage back to 100%.
Or, from the steering wheel, press the Home button on the left side, then scroll down and select Maintenance, then Oil Life to display the oil life percentage. From here, hold the Enter button for around 10 seconds until new options appear on the screen. Select All Due Items to reset the oil life.
Last but not least, it’s time to clean up. To protect the environment, it’s important not to dump your dirty oil on the ground or in the trash can. The best way to dispose of it is in a sealed container at your local recycling center.
