Chevy Trax Tire Pressure

For the Trax, Chevrolet recommends that you fill both the front and rear tires with 35 psi of air.
Written by Natalie Todoroff
background
The recommended Chevy Trax tire pressure is 35 pounds per square inch (PSI) of air in both the front and rear tires.
We’ve all been there: you’re driving along as usual when, suddenly, one of those pesky
dashboard lights
begins to glow…and totally ruins your morning. Although it may be tempting to ignore your tire pressure light until you go over a pothole big enough to get it to turn off—don’t! Properly inflated tires are an integral part of safe driving, as improperly inflated tires can impact your ability to steer and increase your chances of a blowout.
Thankfully, checking your Chevy Trax’s tire pressure is easier than you’d think.

What is the right tire pressure for Chevy Trax?

For the Trax, Chevrolet recommends a tire pressure of 35 psi for both the front and rear tires. It’s the same regardless of which trim level or model year of the Trax you drive. Tire size doesn’t matter here, either—if you drive a Chevy Trax, all four tires should have 35 psi of air in them.
It’s easy to remember just one number, but in case you ever forget, you don’t need to keep it written on a post-it note somewhere in your glovebox. In fact, it’s already written down for you in your vehicle! If you ever catch yourself topping up your tires and can’t recall if it’s 35 or 36 psi, just look at the sticker on the drivers side door jamb. It’s got tons of useful information like your Chevy’s vehicle identification number (VIN); paint code; recommended tire size; and, you guessed it, its tire pressure.

How to check Chevy Trax tire pressure

You don’t even have to get out of the driver’s seat to check your Chevy Trax’s tire pressure! You can see exactly how much air is in each of your car’s tires on the display screen behind your steering wheel
Look at the knob you use to control your windshield wipers. You’ll see that it has several buttons on it, including one that says “menu.” If you press the menu button just once, you’ll be taken to a screen that has real-time tire pressure readings for all four of your Chevy Trax’s tires. Be aware that this is only for the four tires that are actually on the road—not the spare tire.
Or, if you’re not the most tech savvy and want to know how to do it the old fashioned way, we’ll walk you through how to read your tire pressure with
a tire pressure gauge
—which, by the way, we’d recommend you keep in your glovebox just in case. To use it, remove the valve stem cap from each of your tires and press the tire pressure gauge onto the valve stem. The tire pressure will give you a reading that will indicate whether you need to add or remove air.

How often should you check tire pressure?

We’d recommend that you check your tire pressure once a month. But, if you’ve got a road trip in the near future, it’s wise to check it before you get started.
That said, if there’s something up with your tire pressure, your vehicle won’t be shy about letting you know. Decreased performance, an uneven feeling ride, and wonky steering might all point to an issue with tire pressure.

How to tell if your Chevy Trax needs new tires

In general, you should change your tires every six years. However, you should still regularly inspect them and check for bulges, cracks, and low tread depth, all of which indicate that it's time for a new set.
You don’t need to be a mechanic to check your tread depth. In fact, all you need is a US penny! Stick the coin into your tire treads Lincoln’s-head-first. If the top of Abe’s head is visible, your tread depth is too shallow.

How to reset Chevy Trax tire pressure monitoring system (TPSM) light

Even after you refill your tires, your Chevy Trax’s tire pressure monitoring system light may be reluctant to turn off. Usually after topping off your tires, you should drive for about 20 minutes or so above 15 mph, and the light may go off automatically.
But, if that doesn’t happen, you’ll need to
reset your TPMS
manually—which is just as easy as checking the Chevy Trax’s tire pressure. Remember the knob we mentioned earlier that has the menu button on it? There’s a black button at the end of that knob that will reset the tire pressure pressure monitoring system.
Navigate to the tire pressure display screen by pressing the menu button, then press and hold the black button at the end of the knob. You’ll be asked “Are you sure that you want to relearn?” You should select yes. And voila! The light should turn off after that.
If that doesn’t work either, there could be a larger issue with your Chevy Trax, and you should take it to a mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
