Where can I find my Chevrolet’s paint code?

Your Chevrolet’s paint code will always be located on the vehicle’s service parts identification sticker—unfortunately, though, the location of the sticker moves around depending on the make and model. Many Chevrolet’s have theirs stuck to either the spare wheel cover, glovebox, or middle/rear console, so check those spots first.

Once you find it, the paint code will be designated by the letters BC/CC—standing for basecoat and clearcoat, respectively—followed by the letter U and a four-digit code that sometimes includes letters.

What if there’s no paint code on the car’s label?

If you’ve located the sticker but can’t find the paint code printed anywhere, it may be that you have an older model Chevrolet, in which case you’ll need to use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to look up your paint code.

Now that you’ve got your paint code, it’s time to begin painting. For a smoother touch-up job, follow the tips below:

Thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and water

If the area is rusted, use a wire brush or fine sandpaper to remove it

Apply a paint primer to any bare plastic or metal you intend to paint and leave it to dry overnight. After it has dried, lightly sand the area to create a uniform surface.

Paint the damaged area in the same color as the rest of the vehicle. Allow at least 20 minutes between coats and build up multiple layers. Allow the final layer to dry overnight.
