Where can I find my Chevrolet’s paint code?

Your Chevrolet’s paint code will always be located on the vehicle’s service parts identification sticker—unfortunately, though, the location of the sticker moves around depending on the make and model. Many Chevrolet’s have theirs stuck to either the spare wheel cover, glovebox, or middle/rear console, so check those spots first.
Once you find it, the paint code will be designated by the letters BC/CC—standing for basecoat and clearcoat, respectively—followed by the letter U and a four-digit code that sometimes includes letters.

to then find your Chevrolet’s exact color.

What if there’s no paint code on the car’s label?

If you’ve located the sticker but can’t find the paint code printed anywhere, it may be that you have an older model Chevrolet, in which case you’ll need to use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to look up your paint code.
Your VIN will appear as an alphanumeric, 17 character sequence unique to your vehicle and can be found stamped on a metal plate affixed to the lower-left corner of the dashboard, visible through your windshield. It should also be printed somewhere on your car title and vehicle registration paperwork.

Where can I get paint for my Chevrolet?

Paint for your Chevrolet can be bought both in-store at your local automotive store or online from sites like
Automotive Touch Up
or
Touch Up Direct
—as long as you know your paint code, you have options to choose from.

Paint touch-up tips

Now that you’ve got your paint code, it’s time to begin painting. For a smoother touch-up job, follow the tips below:
  • Thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and water
  • If the area is rusted, use a wire brush or fine sandpaper to remove it
  • Apply a paint primer to any bare plastic or metal you intend to paint and leave it to dry overnight. After it has dried, lightly sand the area to create a uniform surface.
  • Paint the damaged area in the same color as the rest of the vehicle. Allow at least 20 minutes between coats and build up multiple layers.  Allow the final layer to dry overnight.
  • Apply a clear protective coat in the same manner you used to paint. Apply multiple layers and allow for overnight drying
  • Buff the area with wax after three days to give it a nice shine
If the damaged area you’re touching up isn’t very large, you may be able to get away with buying a paint pen or small touch-up kit rather than a full paint can—both can usually be found at your local automotive store.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍

FAQs

You can! Regardless of whether you’re just doing minor touch-up work or are looking to do a full-body paint job (though we recommend leaving this to the professionals), you can paint your Chevrolet—just make sure to have your paint code handy for proper color matching.
For each color vehicle they manufacture, Chevrolet attaches a specific code designating the exact shade of paint. The location of your Chevrolet’s paint code varies depending on the make and model, but will always be located on the service parts identification sticker—common places include on the spare tire cover, glove box, and middle console.
If you can’t find the sticker or there is no paint code, use your vehicle identification number to look up the code online.
