Whatever your reason for owning this vehicle, keeping up with regular maintenance is necessary if you want to use it for as long as possible. One part of this is changing your engine oil and filter regularly. 2019 Subaru Crosstrek oil capacity

You’re going to need 4.7 quarts of oil (or 4.4 liters) to do a proper oil and filter change—that’s your Subaru’s oil capacity. If you’re just filling up oil levels from the low level to the full level, you only need 1.1 quarts.
You should also be checking your oil rather frequently. Subaru recommends checking at least every second time you are filling up on gas.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek need?

Subaru will always recommend using Subaru-approved oil when you’re adding or replacing the oil and oil filter in your 2019 Crosstrek. If this is unavailable, they recommend using API-certified SAE 0W-20 synthetic oil.
API stands for the American Petroleum Institute. Any oil with an API certification and API service symbol should work with the Murano, so long as it means Nissan’s recommended viscosity.
Speaking of viscosity, the number to the left of the W represents how well the oil flows in cold temperatures, and the number on the right how well it flows in hot temperatures. When we’re talking about 0W-20 oil, this means the oil still flows well at 0 and 20 degrees.
Synthetic oil is man-made, with artificial chemical compounds, and is considered to be better than conventional oil for your car. Conventional oil just can’t compete with the overall performance that synthetic oil gives you.
Subaru recommends using Genuine Subaru motor oil. We’ve included a couple of other options as well:

How often to change the oil on a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru recommends getting the 2019 Crosstrek’s oil and filter changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, this interval will probably get shorter if you drive on dusty roads, make a lot of short trips, or drive in extremely cold weather.
It’s best to ask the mechanic at a Subaru dealer if you want to be safe, or watch out for the following signs that you may need an oil change:
  • Your oil has a dark color
  • Your check engine oil light is on
  • A noticeable drop in fuel efficiency (you’re using more gas than usual for routine trips)
  • Consistently stalling or overheating engine
Checking your oil is just as important as changing it—this way, you can always be sure there’s no problem. It’s quite easy, just wait a few minutes after turning the ignition off and then use the dipstick to check if your oil is within the recommended levels.

How to change your oil and oil filter

You can do your own oil changes, but if it’s your first time you should probably get some help. Subaru recommends you see a dealer for this. You will need several tools:
  • Jack and jack stand to raise your car
  • A drain bolt wrench
  • An oil filter-removal wrench (this is a specialized tool you’ll have to get from a dealer)
  • A filter and drain pan to catch the old oil
Gloves and a funnel will probably make the process less messy as well. Make sure you have at least 4.7 quarts of your chosen oil and a new oil filter! Here are all the steps you need to change your oil:
  1. First, safely park your Crosstrek on a level surface.
  2. Let your engine reach a normal operating temperature before turning it off and waiting a few minutes.
  3. Raise the car up using a floor jack and jack stand.
  4. Open the hood and remove the oil fill cap.
  5. Place a drain pan under the drain plug, and remove it using the wrench. Let the oil drain into the pan completely. Be careful - the oil may be hot.
  6. Using the oil filter wrench, loosen the oil filter and remove it with the hand. Keep your drain pan handy to catch the oil under the filter too.
  7. Screw in the new oil filter and drain plug using the respective wrenches.
  8. Refill the engine oil through the filler opening and install the cap securely.
Once you’re done, be sure to restart your engine and check to see if there’s any leakage. Safely dispose of the waste oil according to local regulations. Check your engine oil to make sure you didn’t add too little (or too much) of the oil.
And that’s all there is to it! Congrats, you’ve saved yourself a trip to the mechanic and become a more knowledgeable car owner in the process.
