The two most common problems with the 2019 Nissan Sentra are issues with the brake lights failing to illuminate as well as the lack of an image in the backup camera display.
  • The 2019 Nissan Sentra was recalled for two serious safety issues: a problem with the brake lights and a problem with the backup camera display.
  • Other common problems include electrical issues, early transmission failure, and problems with the radio.
  • The 2019 Nissan Sentra received a 4-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA.

The most common 2019 Nissan Sentra problems

The 2019 Nissan Sentra is a spacious sedan with great fuel efficiency that’s priced lower than most cars in its class. That said, the 2019 Sentra has its share of deficiencies, two of which can be quite serious if not remedied.
An issue with the brake light switch could cause the switch to become contaminated, preventing the circuit from closing. This results in the brake lights failing to illuminate when the car brakes. This issue was so common that it caused the 2019 Sentra to be recalled.
Another problem resulting in a recall for the Sentra was an issue with its backup camera display system. The backup camera and display settings on the Sentra could be calibrated in such a way that the rear-view image is no longer visible. The backup camera and display will stay adjusted to those settings the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse, putting you at risk of getting into an accident.
Other common problems with the 2019 Nissan Sentra include:
  • Unreliable timing chains in the engine
  • Transmission failing before 30,000 miles
  • Vehicle acceleration and handling of curves
  • The radio randomly restarting
  • Electrical issues with the remote start system
  • Battery draining when parked
While these problems are less severe, they could still end up costing you money and, under an unlucky combination of circumstances, lead to a hazardous driving situation.

Is the 2019 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Despite two major recalls, the 2019 Nissan Sentra is a relatively reliable, low-priced sedan option. It received relatively high reliability and safety scores from top reviewers:
  • RepairPal reliability score: 4.0 (out of 5.0)
  • NHTSA overall safety rating: 4 stars (out of 5 stars)
  • J.D. Power quality and reliability rating: 80 (out of 100)
The average annual cost of repairs for the 2019 Nissan Sentra is approximately $491, giving the Sentra a lower-than-average ownership cost.
Most repairs tend to be of “average” urgency, and serious repairs for the Nissan Sentra are relatively rare compared to comparable car models.
