2019 Kia Sportage 2.4-liter oil capacity

To start, you’ll want to consult your owner’s manual for Kia’s recommended engine oil for the 2019 four-cylinder Sportage. But don’t worry if you don’t have your manual handy—we’ve got you covered!
The oil capacity tops off at 5.07 quarts for the 2019 Kia Sportage. Always make sure to not overfill the oil, as doing so could cause otherwise avoidable engine damage

What kind of oil does a 2019 Kia Sportage need?

The Kia Sportage owner’s manual recommends to use Total Quartz 5W-30 engine oil. This viscosity of oil works well in both hot and cold temperatures. You should be sure to use full synthetic motor oil in your 2019 Sportage.
A second option is to use
10W-30
motor oil. Which has the same viscosity as 5W-30 oil but will be thicker than 5W-30 when it’s cold outside. 10W-30 full synthetic oil is most suitable for your Sportage if your local temperature never drops below 20° F.

Now that you know what types of oil will work well with your 2019 Kia Sportage and how much to add, you’ll want to check the owner’s manual to find out how often it’s recommended that you change the oil.
It’s common to see a recommendation to change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles you drive—but keep in mind that this is the standard frequency if you use conventional oil in your vehicle.
Newer cars almost exclusively call for full synthetic oil. Although it might be slightly more expensive to purchase, it’s better quality and keeps your car running smoother for a longer period of time.
If you use full synthetic oil in your 2019 Kia Sportage, you will only need to change the oil every 7,5000 to 10,000 miles. A good rule of thumb is to check your car’s oil frequently to make sure it’s at a good level and not getting sludgy.
Always listen to your car. If your Kia is running loudly, you see or smell any oil or
smoke coming from the engine
, or notice the vehicle’s performance has diminished you should get it looked at right away by a professional mechanic.

2019 Kia Sportage: How to change the oil

To change the oil on a 2019 Kia Sportage at home, start by gathering up all the tools and supplies needed to get the job done right. Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Car jack and
    jack stands
  • Gloves
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Filter wrench
  • Oil filter
  • Oil drain pan
  • 5.1 quarts of synthetic oil
  • Oil funnel
When you change your Kia’s oil, it’s also recommended that you change the
oil filter
as well. Follow the steps below from start to finish to change your oil:
  • First, jack up the front of the Sportage and set it on the jack stands.
  • Put on your gloves—this could get a little messy.
  • Locate the access panel underneath the front end of the vehicle. It’s held in place by three plastic push pins. Carefully use your screwdriver to pop them out and access the oil filter.
  • The access panel for the oil drain is held together by two plastic push pins. You will need to loosen these with your screwdriver. Place the drain pan underneath to catch the oil as it pours out.
  • With your socket wrench, loosen the bolt of the oil drain. Once the oil has finished draining, replace the bolt by hand and tighten it with your wrench, being careful not to strip the threads on the bolt.
  • Loosen your oil filter with your filter wrench (with an extension) or by hand. Be sure your oil drain band is positioned below to catch the spillage.
  • Use fresh motor oil to coat the o-ring on the seal of your new oil filter. This will keep it from sticking or leaking when you install it.
  • Fill up your Kia with new oil. Use the dipstick to check your oil levels to ensure you’ve added the correct amount.
That’s it! Considering that the average synthetic oil change on a Kia Sportage is between $45 and $70, you’ve just saved a good amount of money.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
