How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Kia Soul

What is it about service lights that are so pesky? If you’re sure your Kia Soul doesn’t need to be serviced and you want to get rid of that annoying alert, just reset it. It will only take a few seconds, then you can be on your way. Here’s what to do:
  • Turn on the power, but don’t start the engine.
  • Press the “Menu” button (which looks like a few pieces of paper) on the steering wheel and scroll to select the “Service Required” alert on the dash (this looks like a warning in a triangle or a wrench).
  • Press the down arrow button below the menu button on the steering wheel and hold it for one to two seconds.
When you release the button, the service light should reset and turn off. It’s as simple as that! The next time the light illuminates, it means your Soul needs servicing, so don’t ignore it.

How often does a 2014 Kia Soul need an oil change

Regular oil changes are important! Kia advises changing the oil on your 2014 Soul every 7,500 miles or six months (whichever comes first). For the best performance, Kia recommends using synthetic 5W-20 motor oil, which has a low viscosity, or thickness, at low and extremely high temperatures.
If you know your way around the underside of a car, you can do an oil change at home. Depending on labor costs in your area, you might save up to $100—not bad for less than an hour of your time. Just remember to reset the service light once you’re done.
You should have no trouble clearing this warning light, but if, for some reason, you can’t get it to reset or there’s another issue triggering the service light, you might have to take your Soul to a Kia dealership or auto repair shop. Trained technicians can diagnose and repair the problem or reset the light.
