Once your Kia Soul is steady for an oil change, just gather up the tools you need and your new engine oil and replacement filter. You’ll need a filter wrench, a drain pan, and a socket wrench to get the job done.

First, you’ll want to start your vehicle’s engine and let it run until it’s at normal operating temperature. This usually takes about five minutes. Warming up the oil makes it easier for it all to drain out. Once your engine is warm, shut it off and open the hood to find your oil reservoir. Then, follow these steps:

Remove the oil fill cap

Position your drain pan under the vehicle and remove the oil drain bolt

While the old oil is draining, remove the old filter

Install the new filter

When the oil has completely drained, replace the oil drain bolt

Fill your reservoir with new engine oil, checking you’ve added enough using your dipstick

After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
