How much does it cost to fix a car undercarriage?

I drove over a giant board sitting in the middle of my lane when I got onto the interstate, and I saw it too late and couldn’t slow down. Nothing seemed wrong when I looked under my car later, but now when I’m driving it doesn’t feel right. I think something under my car does need to be repaired. How much would this cost?

It sounds like your car may have experienced
damage to the undercarriage
.
The undercarriage of your car consists of a number of different components, many of them crucial to the safe and smooth operation of your vehicle.
To name a few:
  • The exhaust system
  • The gas tank
  • The brake lines
  • The axles
  • The transmission system
Your car’s undercarriage can be a pretty costly ordeal, potentially running as much as $2,000 to $3,000 if the damage is extensive.
Keep in mind: How much it costs will depend on what was damaged. Once you take your car to a mechanic, you should have a better idea of what part(s) of your car’s undercarriage might have been damaged and how much it will cost to repair.
Pro tip: If you have the right kind of policy, your car insurance company might be able to help you with the cost of these repairs.
