2015 GMC Acadia engine oil capacity

To get started, the first thing that you’ll need to know is how much oil to use. The 2015 GMC Acadia has an engine oil capacity of 6 quarts. But that’s just the beginning: there’s a lot more information that you’ll need.

What kind of oil does a 2015 GMC Acadia need?

Next, you’ll have to make sure that you use the correct type of all. Not all oils are the same, and they cannot be used interchangeably.
The important difference is each oil type’s viscosity rating, which is a measurement of how thick it is.
The two numbers describe an oil's viscosity at different temperatures. The first number is the oil’s thickness at a “cold start” or “winter” temperature of 0°F. The second number is the oil’s thickness at normal operating temperature of 212°F.
For your 2015 GMC Acadia, you’ll need fully synthetic 5W-30 motor oil.

How often to change the oil in a 2015 GMC Acadia

You should count on changing the oil in your 2015 GMC Acadia every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every six months
But that’s just the baseline. You should change your oil early if you ever notice a sudden drop in your GMC’s performance or unfamiliar noises or smells coming from your engine.
These are other common issues that you might notice:
  • The engine oil level has dropped faster than it should.
  • The oil has changed color from amber or light brown to dark brown or black.
  • The oil has visible debris in it.
  • There is a coarse or gritty texture to the oil when you rub some between two fingers.
If you notice any of these issues, change your oil as soon as you can.

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now you know what the engine oil capacity for your 2015 GMC Acadia is, how often to change its oil, and what type of oil to use. The only thing left is to learn how to actually change its oil
Here’s what you should do:
  • Gather your materials. You’ll need 6 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil, a fresh oil filter, a filter wrench, a socket wrench, and a drain pan.
  • Run your engine for 5-10 until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  • Shut off the engine and pop the hood.
  • Locate and remove the oil fill cap.
  • From underneath the engine, locate and remove the oil drain bolt. Make sure that you have your drain pan in place underneath. The oil will start draining as soon as the bolt comes off.
  • While the oil is draining, remove the old oil filter. You can install the fresh filter as soon as the oil has finished draining.
  • Reattach the drain bolt, tighten it, and then refill the engine’s oil using the fresh oil.
  • Replace the oil fill cap and close the hood.
  • Clean up and check for leaks. Pour the used oil into a saleable container and drop it off at a recycling center.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary
And that is how you change the oil and the oil filter in a 2015 GMC Acadia—now you’ll never have to pay a mechanic to do it for you again!
