Why is my 2015 Ford Fusion backup camera not working?

Most vehicles experience
electrical componant issues
at one point or another, and that’s usually the culprit behind a backup camera that suddenly decides to quit working.
Fortunately, a lot of the time you can fix a malfunctioning backup camera without having to take your vehicle to a mechanic. Fixing the issue at home can save you time and money, so it’s always worth it to try and troubleshoot the problem first.
One of the easiest ways you can try to fix your backup camera is to reset it. Simply find the reset button for the rear camera (you can also look in your owner’s manual if you’re having trouble finding it) and hold it down for about 10 seconds. This should reboot your camera.

Common backup camera issues for the 2015 Ford Fusion

If a soft reset doesn’t fix your Ford Fusion’s backup camera problems, there may be another issue going on. Here are some of the common ones and how to fix them.

Backup camera screen says “No Signal”

If your backup camera says there’s no signal, it’s most likely due to a blown fuse. When you find the fuses, there should be a diagram on the fuse cover that tells you which fuse goes to which part of your vehicle. (You can also find this information in your owner’s manual).
Once you’ve found the right one, pull it out and visually inspect it. A blown fuse is pretty obvious—the wire element will be melted or burned. If the fuse is blown, you can replace it and solve your camera problems.

Picture is black and white or full of static

If your camera’s picture suddenly looks like a 1950’s television show, or there’s a lot of static on the screen, chances are you have a frayed wire or bad connection. Check your owner’s manual for wiring diagrams to find the connections to your backup camera.
First, make sure all the connections are secure and none have wiggled loose. Sometimes fixing your camera is as easy as reconnecting the wires that have disconnected over time. However, if this doesn’t solve the issue, you’ll want to visually inspect the wires for any fraying or corrosion. If the wires are damaged, you’ll want to take your vehicle to a mechanic to get it fixed.

Backup camera foggy

If your backup camera is foggy or has spots on it, it may just need a good cleaning. Backup cameras sit pretty low to the ground, so they’re prone to getting caked with mud and other road debris.
You can simply take a microfiber towel and gently wipe your camera lens. If the dirt and grime are particularly stubborn, you can wipe them off with water or even isopropyl alcohol. In most cases, this should clear up any foggy spots on your camera.

Camera screen is black

So what happens if your camera won’t turn on at all? In this case, the issue might be with your display instead of your camera. It might be improperly connected (or the connection has gone bad) or the monitor is damaged.
You can check your wiring diagram to see which connections lead to your display instead of your camera. Follow the same steps as above to see if the connection is loose or damaged. If this doesn’t solve the issue, the monitor itself might need replacing.
