background
The 2007 Toyota RAV4, like so many of their models, is known for its reliability and its excellent fuel economy. Even a vehicle as dependable as the RAV4, however, needs the help of regular oil changes to keep rolling—and for that, you’ll need to know its engine oil capacity.
Owning a Toyota means that you could have a reliable vehicle for decades—provided, of course, that you take proper care of it and stick to a good
car maintenance schedule
. One of the most important aspects of proper maintenance is regularly changing the oil. To do that, though, you’ll need to know the correct type and amount of oil to give it.
Of course, that information can be found in your owner’s manual. Just in case you don’t have the manual handy, though,

2007 Toyota RAV4 engine oil capacity

One of the first things you’ll need to know before doing on
oil change
in your Toyota on your own is: What is the engine oil capacity of a 2007 Toyota RAV4
The 2007 Toytota RAV4 has an engine oil capacity of 4.5 liters. It often can be confused with the engine’s displacement number, which describes the amount of volume that the engine’s cylinders take up, whereas the engine oil capacity describes the total amount of oil that the engine can hold.

What kind of oil does a 2007 Toyota RAV4 need?

Now that you know how much oil your RAV4 needs, you need to identify what type of oil it uses. Oils are mainly differentiated based on their viscosity (or thickness), but you'll also have the option between synthetic and conventional oil. It’s very important that you always use engine oil that matches the manufacturer’s recommendation for your car—using other oil could cause serious issues or void your warranty.
VIscosity is always described in the format of one number and the letter W, followed by a dash and a second number (such as 5W-20 or 10W-60). The first number, or the “winter” number, describes the oil viscosity at 0°F, whereas the second number describes its viscosity at 212°F.
Assuming that your RAV4 is the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that comes standard on all trim levels (as opposed to the optional V6 version), you’ll want to use fully synthetic 5W-20 or 0W-20 oil. If you opted for the
Rav4 V6
engine, however, you’ll likely need fully synthetic 5W-30 oil
Any fully synthetic oil with a 5W-20 or 0W-20 viscosity rating should work just fine for your standard four-cylinder RAV4. Toyota has their own recommended oil in the owner's manual:

How often to change the oil on a 2007 Toyota RAV4

Now that you know what type of oil your Toyota needs, and how much of it needs, You’ll need to know how often you’re actually going to be changing the oil!
According to Toyota's recommended maintenance schedule, the oil in a RAV4 should be changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If you’ve made the mistake of switching your car to conventional (rather than synthetic) oil, on the other hand, you’ll need to change the oil much more often—about once every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
Of course, even if it’s only been a few hundred miles, you should still get the oil changed if you notice something out of place, such as unfamiliar noises, burning smells, or changes in your vehicle’s performance
Also, you should remember to check your oil once a month or every other fuel fill-up. That way you can keep an eye out for leaks, debris, and other issues.

How to change your oil and oil filter

When the time rolls around for an oil change in your 2007 Toyota RAV4, you’ll need a few things before you can get started—you’ll need a socket wrench, a drain pan, a filter wrench, a replacement filter, and five quarts of synthetic 5W-20 or 0W-20 engine oil
Once you have those items ready, you can go ahead with your oil change!
First, you’ll want to start the engine of your 2007 Toyota RAV4 and allow it to run for a few until it reaches normal operating temperatures. Then, shut off the engine and follow these steps:
  1. Pop the hood, locate and then remove the oil fill cap
  2. From underneath the Toyota, locate and remove the oil drain bolt
  3. Make sure to keep your drain pan underneath the oil drain both so the oil doesn’t spill.
  4. While the oil is draining, remove the old oil filter
  5. Install a new filter
  6. Replace the oil drain both and tighten
  7. Refill the engine with fresh oil.
Completing the
oil change shouldn't take long
at all. When you’re all finished, let the engine run for a few more minutes. While you clean up, keep an eye out for any leaks or complications. Double-check the oil level with your dipstick, just to be sure.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
