How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Kia Sorento

Your 2014 Kia Sorento tracks the miles in between oil changes and notifies you when it’s time to replace your oil and filter. However, once the tracker reaches zero miles, signifying that it’s time for an oil change, it won’t reset itself automatically. Instead, you need to reset the light yourself so that your Sorento is able to resume tracking the proper intervals between oil changes.
But don’t freak out—you can easily reset the light following these directions:
  • Put your ignition in the “ON” position by pressing the START-STOP button twice without depressing the brake pedal.
  • Locate the menu button on the bottom right portion of your steering wheel and use it to navigate to the service interval screen.
  • Press and hold the reset button—it is located beneath the menu button and looks like an upside-down triangle—until the service interval resets.
After completing these steps, your service interval tracker should reset and resume tracking the miles until your next oil change. The light will reappear when it’s time for another oil change.

How often does a 2014 Kia Sorento need an oil change?

Kia recommends replacing the oil in your 2014 Sorento every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if using conventional oil and every 7,500 miles if using fully-synthetic oil. When you change your oil, you should replace it with SAE 5W-30, as recommended by your owner’s manual.
Keeping up with regular oil changes is critical for the life of your vehicle. As one of the most basic and essential forms of vehicle maintenance, oil changes keep your car running smoothly and help
prevent serious engine damage
While you can take your Sorento to the dealership or an independent shop for this service, replacing your own oil is an excellent DIY project and a great way to become more familiar with your car while saving some cash.
If all you’re doing is replacing your Sorento’s oil, resetting the maintenance light should be simple and straightforward. However, if you can’t get the light to turn off or your car requires a more complex form of maintenance, it’s probably worthwhile to bring your vehicle to a professional.
