Oh no—the dreaded Check Engine Light! The OBD port location for a 2019 Subaru Forester
is to the left of the pedals and below the steering wheel. If you’ve used the Onboard Diagnostics II (OBD-II) port before, you know that it **allows you to access your Subaru’s internal computer for running emissions tests and diagnostics **.
Anyone can run a diagnostic on their car, provided they have the right tools and experience. An OBD-II scan tool is necessary to run a correct diagnostic and accurately read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
your car’s internal computer will provide. If you don’t have a scan tool handy, we don’t recommend running a diagnostic yourself. You should take your car to a trusted mechanic or Subaru dealership for assistance.
If you do have a scan tool handy, simply follow these steps:
Plug the scan tool into your Subaur’s OBD port—you know where it is now!
Turn on the scan tool and crank the ignition in your car—but don’t turn it all the way on.
Press “Scan” on the scan tool and follow the exact instructions on its screen
All scan tools are different, so make sure to follow your scanner’s precise instructions.
Within a few minutes, the scanner should provide you with a DTC, which will help determine what’s wrong with your Subaru. We hope it’s nothing serious!
