2013 Chrysler MDX engine oil capacity

First and foremost, you should know the engine oil capacity of your 2013 Chrysler 200.
The 2013 Chrysler 200 comes in three trim levels for the sedan and one trim level for the convertible, which have a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The liter numbers associated with the engine type are referred to as the engine’s displacement or the volume of its cylinders. With this said, the four-cylinder engine takes up 2.4 liters while the V6 takes up 3.6 liters.
Each engine offered for the 2013 Chrysler 200 requires a different engine oil capacity:
  • 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine: 4.6 quarts (4.4 liters)
  • 3.6-liter V6 engine: 5.9 quarts (5.6 liters)

What kind of oil does a 2013 Chrysler 200 need?

Now that you know the oil capacity required for your 2013 200’s engine, you’ll need to select an appropriate oil type to perform a successful oil change.
The following oil types are recommended for a 2013 Chrysler 200:
It’s best to stick to the owner’s manual oil type, but any of the recommendations above will work just fine.
In particular, you’re looking for an oil that matches the 0W-20 or 5W-20 specifications listed above. The numbers in the oil grade describe the oil’s viscosity, where the “W” stands for winter, and the number 0 or 5 next to it refers to the oil’s low viscosity at 0°F. The number 20 expresses the oil’s thin viscosity at blazing hot temperatures, and the SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, the oil viscosity coders.
If you’re looking for a longer engine oil lifespan, you can use synthetic motor oil. Find a high-grade synthetic blend with 0W-20 or 5W-20 specifications for the best results!

How often to change oil on a 2013 Chrysler MDX

So, you know your engine oil capacity and type—but is it actually time to change your oil? If you’re using conventional oil, Chrysler recommends changing your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. For most drivers, this means you should get an oil change every six months.
Alternatively, if your 2013 200 takes synthetic oil, you can wait for between 7,500 to 10,000 miles to perform an oil change, or once a year.
Although the recommended intervals are typically on-par with vehicle and oil performance, you may need an earlier oil change with either conventional or synthetic types. To prevent over-using your Chrysler’s oil, you should check its condition and level on a monthly basis.
Keep an eye out for the following signs that it’s time for an oil change:
  • Dark brown or black oil (Clean oil is light brown.)
  • Gritty or rough oil
  • Unusual noises coming from the engine bay
  • Unfamiliar smells (oil, smoke, or burning)
  • Altered vehicle performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

If you think it's time for an oil change, you can gather your materials and head out to your Chrysler. You’ll need a socket wrench, a drain pan, a filter wrench to remove the old filter, a replacement filter, and up to 4.6 or 5.9 quarts of 0W-20 or 5W-20 engine oil.
Begin with starting your 200. Let the engine run for a while to warm up the engine and oil, then turn the car off and put the parking brake in place. Next, open the hood and follow these steps:
  1. Turn the oil fill cap counterclockwise and remove it
  2. Pull the dipstick up an inch or two for airflow
  3. Get underneath the engine and place an oil drain pan below the oil drain
  4. Remove the oil drain plug and washer to begin draining the oil into the pan
  5. Remove the old filter
  6. Rub a coat of oil around the new filter gasket and install the new filter
  7. Clean and reinstall the drain plug with a new washer and tighten it to 20 lb-ft
  8. Refill the engine with new oil
  9. Secure the dipstick and close the fill cap
Once you’ve completed these steps, you can turn your car on and let it warm up for a minute. During this time, the oil will fill the new filter, and you can turn your car off and use the dipstick to check the oil level. Remove or add as necessary, and you’re good to go!
The last step to your oil change involves safely disposing of the dirty oil. Be sure to seal it in a container and bring it to a local recycling center or auto service shop for
