Before you get started, you’ll need to get 6 quarts of Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Blend Motor Oil. You’ll also want to buy a new oil filter and a new oil drain plug gasket. Then, get your filter wrench, oil drain pan, and socket wrench out.

Start your car’s engine and let it run for five minutes or so until it’s reached its regular operational temperature. Pop open the hood and follow these steps:

Remove your Fusion’s oil fill cap and set it aside.

Get underneath your car’s engine with your drain pan and tools. Find and remove the oil drain bolt and old oil drain plug gasket. Let the old oil drain into the drain pan.

Take out the old oil filter as the oil finishes draining.

Install the new oil filter.

Put the oil drain bolt back in, this time using your new oil drain plug gasket. Tighten the bolt to 29 lb-ft.

Add 4.5 or 6 quarts (depending on your engine) of the new oil to the oil fill reservoir, and use the dipstick to check your oil level. Then, put the oil fill cap back on.
