background
The 2007 Toyota Yaris has an oil capacity of 3.9 quarts or 3.7 liters.
Available as a sedan or a hatchback, the 2007 Yaris is an affordable subcompact with a roomy cabin and adjustable seating.
To keep your 2007 Yaris running strong, stick to Toyota’s recommended maintenance schedule—which includes regular oil changes! Here’s everything you need to know about your Yaris’s oil capacity and how to change your oil yourself.

2007 Toyota Yaris engine oil capacity

Let’s start off strong with the amount of oil you’ll need to perform a complete oil change.
You’ll need 3.9 quarts or 3.7 liters of motor oil to fill up the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in your Yaris. But wait—what does 1.5 liters have to do with it? That’s your engine’s displacement, meaning the volume that your cylinders take up under the hood—nothing to do with the engine oil capacity at all.
Make sure you stick to the oil capacity measurements when figuring out how much oil you’ll need—3.9 quarts (3.7 liters).

What kind of oil does a 2007 Toyota Yaris need?

Toyota recommends using 5W-30 oil. But what do those numbers on the label actually mean? The “W” stands for winter, and the “5” indicates that the oil will still have a low viscosity in cold temperatures—meaning it will still be thin enough to keep your engine running smoothly. The “30” means that the oil will also run thin at high temperatures, making this engine oil efficient in most climates.

How often to change the oil on a 2007 Toyota Yaris

With all of that knowledge in mind, it’s time to
change your oil
!
Generally, you want to change the oil in your Yaris every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If the oil you’re using is synthetic, you can stretch it out to 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If your Yaris spends most of its time in the garage, it could use an oil change every six months.
However, it’s important to check on your oil more regularly to make sure that your engine is healthy. Every other time you refuel is a good habit, or you can check it once a month if that’s easier to keep track of. Here are some signs that your oil needs to be changed:
  • It is a dark brown or black color instead of light brown or amber
  • It feels coarse or gritty
  • There are strange noises coming from the engine
  • You notice smells like oil, smoke, or burning
  • A dip in your Yaris’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

It’s time for an oil change! What now? First, gather your tools and materials:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter
  • A replacement filter
  • 3.9 quarts of premium 5W-30 oil
With your Yaris parked, run the engine for around five minutes or until it reaches normal operating temperature. Then, shut the engine off, open the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Take off the oil fill cap
  • Remove the oil drain bolt and washer
  • Drain the old oil into the drain pan
  • Take out the old oil filter as the oil completely drains
  • Secure the new filter in place
  • Replace the oil drain bolt with a new washer. Tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with the new oil
  • Fit the fill cap back on
After these steps are complete, let your car run for about 30 seconds to warm up the new oil. Then use the dipstick to check the oil levels. Once the oil levels are correct, run your Yaris in park again to make sure there are no leaks.
If everything has been installed successfully, you can reset your maintenance light. To do so, turn your key to the ON position without starting the engine and press the ODO/TRIP button on your dash until the display shows TRIP A on the right-hand side. Then, turn the key to the OFF position and press and hold the ODO/TRIP button as you turn the key back to ON—keep holding the button until the dashes where TRIP A was displayed disappear, indicating that your maintenance light has been reset.
But before you celebrate, clean up your workspace! Do not dump the old oil on the ground, down the drain, or in the garbage. Instead, seal it in a plastic container (you can even use the now-empty jug from the new oil you just put in your Yaris) and take the old oil to your local recycling center.
There you have it! With a fresh oil change, your 2007 Yaris will be ready to take on the road once more!
