Is the 2023 BMW X7 redesigned?

In many ways, yes. The 2023 BMW X7 mirrors the strapping road presence of its predecessors but takes it to the next level with changes to the front- and rear-end stylings that reaffirm the X7’s sleek and powerful stance. Upgrades to the base trim and redesigned headlights add a neat finish to the car's exterior, including the option to illuminate the grille with multiple fine-wired LED lights.
In addition, mechanical changes in engines for the xDrive40i and M60i put this newer model at the forefront of any road, and the introduction of driver-assistance functions adds assurance to the overall driving experience.
In comparison, the 2022 X7 only introduced minor adjustments to the X7 generation, making the 2023 model a breakthrough for the luxury SUV. Here are some of the most noteworthy features of the 2023 BMW X7:
  • 40 horsepower added to the six-cylinder engine for a total of 375 horsepower
  • 15% more low-end torque on the six-cylinder engine with AWD
  • Rebuilt V8 engine with 523 horsepower
  • Air suspension and anti-roll functions
  • Wireless device charging
  • Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitor system with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic high beams

2023 BMW X7 vs. 2022 BMW X7: what changed?

Ready to explore the newest BMW X7? Let’s go over the compelling qualities of the 2023 model.

Upgraded trim levels

Although the X7 is well-known for its outstanding trims each year, the 2023 model features noticeable changes that set it apart from the rest. With the 2023 BMW X7 xDrive40i starting at $78,845 MSRP and the 2023 BMW X7 M60i beginning at $104,095 MSRP, here are some of the superlative features that back the price:
  • Adaptive LED headlights that swivel with turns
  • Split headlight units
  • Three-dimensional rear lights
  • Panoramic sunroof and newly introduced roof rails
  • Multi-colored heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and heated front armrests
  • Customizable ambient cabin lights
  • 21-inch alloy wheels

Styling

With changes throughout the body and interior styling of the new model, the X7 encompasses the lasting luxurious finishes of the entire BMW lineup with an innovative twist of technological advancements.
The front dash features an upgraded 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, pushing the display out by over two inches compared to the 2022 12.3-inch screen. Below the touchscreen, a sleek light bar illuminates the front seats, flowing towards the vehicle’s passenger side. Additionally, the gear shift is redesigned with a smaller lever, allowing a smooth transition between gears.
BMW also upgraded the lighting fixtures in both the front and back of the vehicle by introducing split LED headlight units and adaptive light distribution for fog light functionality in the front. On the other side of the vehicle, the backlights are now three-dimensional and divided by a sleek chrome bar encased in glass. What’s more, the classic BMW kidney grille incorporates the optional feature of illumination with LED lights, solidifying the opulent makeup of the vehicle’s front design.
For the first time, BMW also offers the option to upgrade the 21-inch M Sport package wheels to 23-inch light-alloy wheels. If this doesn’t complete the elevated look of your 2023 model, then perhaps one of the new paint colors will, which includes two new blues and three grays.

Pricing

The BMW X7 facelift for 2023 is packed with upgrades and first-time technology that moves it a step up from its predecessors, but thankfully, the prices haven’t increased exorbitantly. The xDrive40i model starts at $78,845 MSRP, while the M60i model is priced at $104,095.
For comparison, here are the starting prices for the rest of the first-generation xDrive40i models:
  • 2019 BMW X7: $66,649
  • 2020 BMW X7: $73,803
  • 2021 BMW X7: $75,895
  • 2022 BMW X7: $75,895

Should you buy a 2023 BMW X7?

With high-standard updates that make this eight-seater a champion in its class, you may be wondering: is the 2023 BMW worth the hype, or should you wait for the next remodel?
In anticipation of the 2024 X7, no significant confirmed changes are expected for the redesign. With that said, the 2023 model is the best choice to date if you’re interested in this luxury SUV. If you’re looking for a lower price point, the 2022 or 2021 models could be a better bet, but keep in mind that the 2023 X7 includes several features that set it apart from past models.
Moreover, there are a few things to consider when choosing between the xDrive40i or M60i X7. While the M60i offers a rebuilt turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with an authoritative 523 horsepower, it does present a higher cost for the initial purchase price and fueling.
Alternatively, the xDrive40i comes equipped with a powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that reaches up to 375 horsepower—all for around $25,000 less. Both vehicles are topped off with all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission, which leads to the final decision—go for the power and price of the xDrive40i
And remember—if you like the specs of the M60i X7, BMW offers numerous packages that can upgrade your xDrive40i with M60i advanced features.
