background
While many states offer free roadside assistance, at least near major metropolitan areas,
Oklahoma
does not. However, to ensure you’ve always got the help you need, roadside assistance plans are available through clubs, credit cards, and even your
car insurance
provider.
Oklahoma has a lot of wide open spaces, which makes it a great state for road tripping to get away from it all. Unfortunately, “away from it all” is the last place you want to be when your car breaks down, you get a flat tire, or you run out of gas. That’s why, whether you live in the Sooner State or you’re just driving through, it’s important to make sure you’ll always have the help you need in case you find yourself stuck on the side of one of Oklahoma’s long and lonely roads.
Since Oklahoma doesn’t offer free roadside assistance, we’ve created this guide to help you understand the various ways you can get the help you need affordably.

How to get roadside assistance in Oklahoma

Since free state-provided assistance isn’t an option in the Sooner State, you will have to pay a fee to ensure you’ve always got the help you need. However, even if you choose to go with a travel club like AAA you may be surprised at how affordable these programs can be. Let’s find out.

Roadside assistance clubs in Oklahoma

When it comes to roadside assistance,
AAA
usually gets top billing. Unfortunately, with that top billing comes top pricing (average policies costs from $60 to $165 per year). But when you consider what you get,
a AAA membership is worth it
.
At the basic rung, AAA benefits include:
  • Car lockout services
  • Dead battery services
  • Flat tire services
  • Towing services up to seven miles (4x per year)
Stepping up a rung or two adds on perks like longer towing distances, trip disruption coverage, and deal on rental cars. If you truly want to ensure you’re covered, AAA might just be a great option for you.

Manufacturers that offer roadside assistance

Many vehicle manufacturers include roadside assistance, at least for a set period of time, with new vehicle purchases and leases. For example, if you purchase or lease a vehicle from any of the manufacturers listed below, you already have some roadside assistance benefits at your fingertips, no matter where you’re traveling:
  • Ford:
    Five years or 60,000 miles
  • Honda
: Three years or 36,000 miles
  • Hyundai
: Five years with unlimited mileage
  • Kia
: Five years or 60,000 miles
  • Nissan
: Three years or 36,000 miles
  • Tesla:
    Four years of 50,000 miles
  • Toyota
: Two years with unlimited mileage

Credit card companies that offer roadside assistance

If there’s one thing almost all of us have today, it’s a credit card—and yours may just offer roadside assistance benefits. For example, each of the following credit companies offers at least one credit card with free roadside assistance included as a member perk:
  • Bank of America
  • Capital One
  • Chase
  • Citi
  • Wells Fargo
  • U.S. Bank
Keep in mind, too, that if you have a Visa credit card, you can have roadside assistance—though it comes with a fee. If you carry something other than a Visa, you’ll need to check with your credit provider to understand the terms of your assistance. Some are covered with an annual fee, some—especially travel and points cards—include the service as a “free” perk, and others partner with a company to provide the assistance. Be sure you’re familiar with your terms of service before you head out on any major trips so you don’t find yourself stuck without help.

Insurance companies that offer roadside assistance

One of the most affordable and convenient ways to acquire roadside assistance is through your car insurance provider. This is especially helpful if you don’t own or lease a new car.
Almost every major insurance provider offers roadside assistance—often referred to as
towing and labor coverage
—to customers as an add-on benefit to their policy, sometimes for as little as $10 to $20 per year. One stipulation is that you usually have to carry
full coverage car insurance
to qualify for the benefit.
Check with your provider to see if they offer this benefit to customers. As with anything to do with car insurance, it’s always a good idea to check quotes from a number of companies to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

How to find free roadside assistance in Oklahoma

Oklahoma doesn’t actually offer a statewide free roadside assistance program. However, like many US states, they do have a Cellphone Emergency Assistance Number drivers can call to report or if they are experiencing a vehicle breakdown or problem. In Oklahoma, drivers should dial *55 (star 55) on their cellphone to report a breakdown. First responders will be dispatched to the scene who can assist you in getting the services you need.
